How To Disable Windows 10 Update Permanently

so without wasting time, let’s try all those steps to disable auto-updates.

Step 1: Disable From Services

Disabling auto-updates from services is not enough because some times it gets automatically enabled after some time.

But we will be fixing that too now.

  1. Right-click on the Start Menu button
  2. Go to ‘RUN’
  3. Type ‘services.msc’
  4. Find ‘Windows Update’ and open it
  5. Change the startup type to ‘Disable
  6. Go to the ‘Recovery‘ tab
  7. select ‘Take no action’ in all 3 options
  8. set ‘0 days‘ for reset fail counter option
  9. Click on the ‘Apply‘ button
  10. Click on the ‘OK’ button

Now the first step is finished.

Some times only disabling windows updates not work correctly for many users. so we will be going for the next step.

Step 2: Disable From Task Scheduler

Let’s directly jump to the steps.

  1. Search for ‘Task Scheduler
  2. Click on the ‘Task Scheduler’ option
  3. Go to ‘Task Scheduler Library’
  4. Open ‘Microsoft’ folder
  5. Go to ‘Windows’ folder
  6. Find the ‘Windows Update’ folder
  7. Select all 4 options shown in that folder
  8. Right-click
  9. Click on the ‘Disable’ option
  10. Done.

Now we have disabled windows auto-updates from task scheduler also.

Step 3: Disable From ‘regedit’

Now we are going to disable windows updates from ‘regedit‘. Just follow the steps given below.

  1. Search for ‘Regedit’
  2. Open ‘Regedit’
  3. Go to ‘Hkey_Local_Machine’
  4. Open ‘SOFTWARE‘ folder
  5. Open the policies’ > ‘Microsoft’ folder
  6. Find ‘Windows’ Folder & Right-Click on it
  7. Click on NEW > KEY
  8. Rename new key as ‘WindowsUpdate’
  9. Now Right-Click on ‘WindowsUpdate’ and again make a new key named ‘AU’
  10. Righ-Click on empty space in this key
  11. Click on DWORD (32-bit) Value
  12. Name it as ‘AUOption’
  13. Set its value at ‘2’

Step 4: ‘gpedit’ method

Follow the steps carefully. I think this step may not work in PCs other than Windows 10 Home and Prefessional. But still you can try this method.

  1. Search for ‘gpedit.msc’ & open it
  2. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates
  3. Open ‘Windows Components’ folder
  4. Click On ‘Windows Update’ folder
  5. Open ‘Configure Automatic Updates’ option
  6. Now ‘Disable‘ it and click on the Apply button.

Now we are heading to the 5th step of our goal. Follow me and do it quickly.

Step 5: Disable Update Assistant

Now we are going to disable the Update Assistant from Task Scheduler

  1. Search for ‘Task Scheduler
  2. Click on the ‘Task Scheduler’ option
  3. Go to ‘Task Scheduler Library’
  4. Open ‘Microsoft’ folder
  5. Click On ‘UpdateAssistant’ folder
  6. Select all 4 options shown there
  7. Right-Click and Disable them all

Hopefully, we have completed all the 5 steps which are important to ensure that Windows 10 Auto-Updates will not irritate us again.

Now the 6th step is very easy to perform.

Step 6: Uninstall Update Assistant

  1. Go to ‘Control Panel’
  2. Select the ‘Category’ option in the View by type in the top right corner
  3. Click on Uninstall a program option
  4. Look for ‘WindowsUpdateAssistant’ program
  5. Uninstall it
  6. Done!

so we have complete all the 6 steps to stop automatic updates in windows 10 computer.
